Under the direction of the Vice President, MHS clinical risk manager plans, organizes and administers risk management activities with the goal of minimizing the adverse effects on patients and/or losses to the organization. Support development, implementation, administration, review and communication of Memorial Health Services policies and procedures related to loss prevention, patient safety, patient rights and/or hospital responsibilities. Provide consultative services and acts as a resource to administration, physicians, patients and employees relating to risk management services.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

Assists with development and maintenance of appropriate and necessary departmental policies, procedures, objectives, and activities. Provides consultation to facility specific policies to facilitate risk mitigation and patient safety.
Provides investigative support for activities regarding actual or alleged Medical Center liability (not including Workers' Compensation) relative to patients, employees, physicians, and visitors. Provides investigative and other support for event analysis (Root Cause Analysis, Intense Analysis, Failure Mode Effect Analysis) and support of Lean process improvement activities.
Coordinates facility-wide communication of lessons learned and improvements from event analysis (RCA, IA, and FMEA)
Reviewing and analyzing UOR submissions, and prepares quarterly summaries of UOR data for Leadership and committee support. Formalize UOR dashboard data.
Essential Job Outcomes
Participates in hospital/medical staff committee meetings and Medical Center as required. Attends and serves on professional/civic service organizations as hospital representative.
Facilitate all activities regarding actual or alleged Medical Center liability (not including Workers' Compensation) relative to patients, employees, physicians, and visitors.
Acts as primary liaison between Corporate Risk Management and the Medical Center.
Works collaboratively with other departments, including but not limited to, the Director of Quality/Performance Improvement, Compliance and Patient Safety Manager.
Coordinates investigation of sentinel and adverse events (under H&S code 1279.1) Available in a consultative role in response to CDPH inquiries and regulatory requirements.
Functions in a teaching and consultative role for staff and provider education. Evaluates and recommends solutions relating to facility and patient safety, which fosters continuous improvement.
Works collaboratively with Risk Managers across the system to develop facility, service area or regional policies/procedures as appropriate according to health law and best practice.
Evaluates programs and effects changes as needed to mitigate risk and improve Patient Safety processes. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements related to same.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, professional affiliations, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops.

Current licensure or certification in clinical specialty
RN licensure preferred
B.S., B.A. degree required
Juris Doctor, Masters Degree in healthcare, business administration or related field preferred
