This position provides leadership to the Family Birth, Acute Care and Intensive Care departments. Supervises and coordinates the activities of personnel engaged in providing care to patients in these departments. Oversees and is responsible for the quality, service and cost-effectiveness of care delivered in these departments. Has responsibility for strategy development and implementation; budget development and revenue cycle integrity; performance improvement, and culture development. Accountable for creating a culture consistent with Jefferson Healthcare organizational values and Jefferson Healthcare service standards. Maintains knowledge of and assures compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Ensures departmental activities and outcomes are aligned with the strategic plan and the organization's mission, vision and values.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Is the appointing authority for Family Birth, Acute Care, Critical Care (Intensive Care) departments, i.e. makes the determinations related to hiring, terminations and disciplinary actions.
Manages staff and conducts performance evaluations.
Interviews, selects, motivates, and coaches staff in the Family Birth, Acute Care, Critical Care (Intensive Care) departments to assure a high level of patient care and service.
Ensures a comprehensive onboarding program is in place for each department and that an appropriate orientation is given to new staff.
Directs day-to-day operations of Family Birth, Acute Care, Critical Care (Intensive Care) departments in accordance with established standards of practice, policy and regulatory requirements.
Identifies and investigates competency issues associated with overall patient care within the departments. Develops and administers corrective measures to ensure safe, quality and efficient patient care.
Collaborates with other departments to assure coordination of care and safe handoffs.
Ensures compliance with nursing standards and clinical practice within the departments.
Develops policies and procedures for use within each department. Revises policies and procedures as need to keep current and relevant.
Responsible for the preparation of annual budgets for capital equipment, personnel, supplies, and other departmental costs.
Monitors and adheres to operational budget. Develops and maintains a mechanism for monitoring key components of salary expenses (overtime, vacancies, external staffing), supplies and other expenses.
Participates and leads improvement activities for the Family Birth, Acute Care, Critical Care (Intensive Care) departments.
Maintains current knowledge of policies, local, state, and federal laws and regulations applicable to each department.
Ensures equipment is in working order; maintains a systematic approach to checking and documenting all equipment.
Works with local colleges to provide quality education experiences for students.
Drives results through strategic Performance Improvement initiatives.
Fosters a high-performing culture of excellence and drives employee engagement.
Actively participates on Hospital committees and teams.
Represents Jefferson Healthcare at appropriate community meetings.
Assists with training as requested.
Serves as Family Birth, Acute Care, Critical Care (Intensive Care) departments consultant to employers, physicians, educational institutions, and community organizations.
Required Education and/or Experience
Current Washington State RN License in good standing
Bachelor's of Nursing required, Masters in Nursing or related field preferred
Five (5) years of progressive management experience in nursing/hospital administration required
Experience in Obstetrics, Medical-Surgical and Critical Care nursing preferred
