Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards
Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements
Obtains information to conduct registration and pre-registration of patients
Updates patient demographic and health insurance information and verifies insurance eligibility
Provides information to patients regarding PatientsBill of Rights, Notice of Privacy Practices per the state of MN and federal regulations
Provides Important Letter to Medicare/Tricare for appropriate patients according to HCFA regulations and department policy
Provides Admission Authorization form and receives signatures on all forms as needed
Answers multiple phone lines, takes calls from patients, family members, physicians, other hospital staff and external customers
Triage phone calls in a timely and professional manner
Maintains bed control functions and assists clinical staff with the discharge function as requested
Copies, faxes, and prints documents
Sorts incoming and outgoing mail
Enters deceased patient information into the Death Record Log
Assists with new employee training as delegated by the Patient Registration Manager
Works shifts as directed, demonstrating flexibility with vacation/holiday coverage and to support the operations of a 24 hours a day, 7 day a week department
Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent
2 years customer service in healthcare, insurance, registration, coding, medical records and/or related customer service experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's degree preferred
Other Required Skills:
Must have the ability to use multiple computer systems simultaneously
Knowledge specifics of multiple health insurance plans per patient accounting department guidelines based on payor requirements
Understands need for completion of Medicare Secondary Payor (MSP) questions per HCFA regulations and department policy Keyboarding and 10-key computer skills
Working knowledge and ability to use Microsoft office suite, proficient in email and internet use
Attention to Detail: Achieves thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task
Computer Skills Basic: Ability to use a computer and applications that are associated with performing basic work tasks (navigate in Windows, Outlook, etc)
Data Entry: Skilled in entering data and calculating items for processing
Input of data into computer systems
Interpersonal Communication: Skilled in developing effective rapport with customers, co-workers, or families, actively listening to develop a positive connection
Office Skills: Knowledge and application of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology
Organization: Effective management of projects, deadlines, and work load prioritizing; putting things together in an orderly and functional whole
Records Management: Knowledge of appropriate data collection policy and procedures, filing systems, data management systems, and programs
