In collaboration with the Vice President Academic Affairs/Designated Institutional Official, directs the efficient and effective management of the Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) functions of the Detroit Medical Center. Works with the Vice President Academic Affairs and Assistant Vice President Academic Affairs to communicate a shared vision for standards, policies, and strategic direction of Undergraduate Medical Education at the Detroit Medical Center. Responsible for educational, finance, human resources, logistical, and legal issues relative to Undergraduate Medical Education Programs. Organizes, coordinates, implements and administers the scheduling, education, evaluation and implementation of ongoing processes for UME programs. Provides leadership role for the communication and day-to-day operational UME functions. Assists with special projects and reports. Provides administrative support to the overall functions within the Department. Provides policies and/or seeks other approval as appropriate. Ensures the development of procedures/protocols and secures approval as necessary. Oversees the development of functional processes. Creates and seeks approval of organizational structures. Develops short to long range goals and measures for the department and oversees the assessment of goal attainment. Develops, seeks approval of, monitors and ensures compliance with budget. Monitors activities for and ensures compliance with laws, government regulations, Joint Commission requirements and DMC policies. As directed, implements external and internal audit recommendations. Ensures hospital departments achieve objectives for diversity of their suppliers.
1. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Education or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Master's degree preferred.
2. Five years of experience in a health care, medical or research based setting. Experience in graduate medical education or medical school administration preferred.
